[Top Ten Tuesday] Best Character Names

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish but is currently being run by That Artsy Reader Girl. A prompt is given each week, and I hope to do it every week so I always have something going up on Tuesdays. This week I am talking about some of my favorite character names!! I am a big fan of character names and if I was someone who wanted kids I would easily name them some of these! Which honestly makes me think of how many of these and other unique/new literary names I am familiar with will be the names of children in the future, or even now.

  • Coraline (Coraline by Neil Gaiman) - is my favorite fictional name ever. I am not one who wants kids, but if I ever had a daughter I'd want to name her Coraline.
  • Karou (Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor) -  Karou is another favorite of mine. I actually named my Kindle Paperwhite Karou because I was reading the trilogy at the time I got it.
  • Odessa (Reign of the Fallen by Sarah Glenn Marsh) - Odessa is such a beautiful name. I am well aware that there are other characters named Odessa but I think the name paired with one of my favorite characters made me see the name in a whole new light.
  • Hermione (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling) - Hermione is one of my favorite names, ever. Mostly because it's paired with such a strong character.
  • Nimona (Nimona by Noelle Stevenson) - Nimona is such a cool name. I don't think I've heard it anywhere else but once I did I couldn't get it out of my head.

  • Laia (An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir) - I love Laia's name (and character) so much. I think it's a sweet name and reminds me of a flower and softness.
  • Arya & Sansa (Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin) - I had heard the name Arya before (but spelled Aria from Pretty Little Liars) but I prefer this spelling. And Sansa is a name completely new to me but I think it's a gorgeous name. Both characters are my favorites also.
  •  Daisy (The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald) - I love flower names, I could probably name off all of them because I love flowers and I love when people have flower names.
  • Dorothy (The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum) - My aunt's, who passed when I was about a year old,  name was Dorothy and because my mom had so many stories about her as  I grew up I ended up falling in love with the name. I would watch Wizard of Oz when I was little just because the main character's name was Dorothy.
  • Feyre (A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas) - I think Feyre is a beautiful name. I honestly am in love with it and could easily see myself naming something Feyre in the future.

Thanks for reading!

    1. Right?! I have a weird love/hate relationship with Maas's books, but her name choices are pretty great. I am kind of a sucker for fantasy styled names like Feyre, Lucien, Lysandra, etc. :D

  4. Coraline is an excellent name and I love the story as well. Nimona is great, too. Different but not hard to pronounce either.

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

  7. This is a fun list. I can't get behind the liking Sansa thing though. When I was little I would watch The Wizard of Oz three times every day (it's one of my mother's favorite stories to tell about me). I think I liked it because I'm from Kansas and just wanted to get out!

Have a great week. - Katie
