My Biggest Literary Crushes!

It's almost Valentine's Day! So I decided to showcase some of my favorite literary crushes that I have accumulated over the years.

Ron Weasley from the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling was my first literary crush. When I was younger I had an obsession with ginger hair. If I saw anyone with red hair I would be in complete awe and I can only imagine how creepy it was for the strangers I'd follow around in public. So when I got to know the goofy red haired best friend of Harry Potter my first crush started. It didn't help when the movies came out, especially since little Heather thought that little Rupert Grint was so cute. Plus I related so much to Hermione Granger, and as I grew up their relationship evolved into my favorite literary relationship.

Peeta Mellark from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins was probably my next biggest literary crush. I liked his loyalty to Katniss and his more introverted personality. He is written as a very kind person, he figures out a way to provide for Katniss even if it gets him beaten by his mother, and even afterwards he apologies to her for throwing her the bread in the rain instead of handing it to her. He was charming and sweet, and didn't have any agendas. I really love his character.

Chaol Westfall is the best character in the Thrones of Glass series by Sarah J Maas. I think that Maas' decision to completely destroy the character she had us (or at least me) love in the first two books was a mistake. He is protective, sweet, strong, and loyal to the ones he loves. I enjoyed his romance with Celaena but it was because I liked that she brought out his more playful side. I think he is the most realistic character in the series. Chaol in Crown of Midnight is my favorite version of Chaol so far, but I am hopeful that his novella will redeem him.

Lysandra from the Thrones of Glass series is another that I absolute love. At first you're not a fan of her because we are in Celaena's head but when you get to know Lysandra you know how great of a character she is. She's so badass and such a strong character especially when you learn of what she's gone through.

Levi Stewart from Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell is downright adorable. He is goofy, charming, and doesn't expect Cather to change herself. Cather's love (and obsession) for the Simon Snow series runs a lot of her life and takes up a lot of her time. She reads to him, he brings her delicious sweet coffee concoctions he invented while working at Starbucks, and they cuddle together. It was innocent and sweet. I also really liked his friendship with Reagan.

Kvothe from the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss is a character that you can't help but root for throughout the series. I think the most attractive thing about Kvothe besides his musical talent and determination is his kindness. He's so sweet with Auri and with his friends Simmon and Wilem.

Karou from the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor may be one of my new favorite characters I've read. I think her motivations for the things she does and her love for her friends and chimera family is something I loved to read about. This whole book series is really centered around the theme of love (family love, romantic love, & platonic love), and I think Karou is the best character to be at the center of a story about love.

And lastly, Bo from Dumplin' by Julie Murphy. Unfortunately, I didn't love this book as much as I wanted to (but a re-read will be happening this year) and you don't get to know Bo as much as I hoped we would. However, from the moments we get with him I absolutely loved his character. I was so excited to hear that there would be a sequel and I cannot wait to learn more of his character. He was genuinely sweet with Willowdean and I really loved their relationship.

Thanks for reading!
