[Top Ten Tuesday] Books With Autumn Vibes

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish but is currently being run by That Artsy Reader Girl. A prompt is given each week, and I hope to do it every week so I always have something going up on Tuesdays. This week I am talking about books that give me Autumn vibes. I have read half of the books on this list and can confirm their Autumn-y vibes. However, the other five on this list that I am basing their Autumn-y vibes off their covers and/or synopsis alone .

Let's jump in!

The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding
Alexandra Bracken

It's been a bit of time since I've read this one, but one of the most memorable things about it was the Autumn setting. I think if you're in the mood for a middle grade novel with fantastic Autumn themes while also being a bit on the spoopy side this is the one for you.
Synopsis
I would say it's a pleasure to meet thee, Prosperity Oceanus Redding, but truly, I only anticipate the delights of destroying thy happiness.

Prosper is the only unexceptional Redding in his old and storied family history — that is, until he discovers the demon living inside him. Turns out Prosper's great-great-great-great-great-something grandfather made — and then broke — a contract with a malefactor, a demon who exchanges fortune for eternal servitude. And, weirdly enough, four-thousand-year-old Alastor isn't exactly the forgiving type.

The fiend has reawakened with one purpose — to destroy the family whose success he ensured and who then betrayed him. With only days to break the curse and banish Alastor back to the demon realm, Prosper is playing unwilling host to the fiend, who delights in tormenting him with nasty insults and constant attempts trick him into a contract. Yeah, Prosper will take his future without a side of eternal servitude, thanks.

Little does Prosper know, the malefactor's control over his body grows stronger with each passing night, and there's a lot Alastor isn't telling his dim-witted (but admittedly strong-willed) human host.

A Secret History of Witches
Louisa Morgan

I think it's the title and the cover that really give me the Autumn vibes but overall I really love the look of this book. Other than the synopsis I don't have a lot to go on when it comes to what the book is about or if my overall guess of it being a good read in Autumn are correct but I am really excited to find out.

Synopsis
An ancient and dangerous power is being handed down from mother to daughter through some of the most consequential historic events of the last two centuries.

After Grandmére Ursule gives her life to save her tribe, her magic seems to die with her. Even so, her family keeps the Old Faith, practicing the spells and rites that have been handed from mother to daughter for generations. Until one day, Ursule’s young granddaughter steps into the circle, and magic flows anew.

From early 19th century Brittany to London during the Second World War, five generations of witches fight the battles of their time, deciding how far they are willing to go to protect their family, their heritage, and ultimately, all of our futures.
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown
Holly Black

This is such a fun vampire story, and I know it was published in 2013 so I read it a handful of years too late but I don't remember hearing a lot about it! So if you're in the mood for a young adult book story about vampires I think this is the one to pick up! I think this one gives me Autumn vibes basically because of the content but also its got a very not-quite winter chill vibe to it. It could be set in summer for all I remember, but the vibes reminded me of Autumn.
Synopsis
Tana lives in a world where walled cities called Coldtowns exist. In them, quarantined monsters and humans mingle in a decadently bloody mix of predator and prey. The only problem is, once you pass through Coldtown's gates, you can never leave.

One morning, after a perfectly ordinary party, Tana wakes up surrounded by corpses. The only other survivors of this massacre are her exasperatingly endearing ex-boyfriend, infected and on the edge, and a mysterious boy burdened with a terrible secret. Shaken and determined, Tana enters a race against the clock to save the three of them the only way she knows how: by going straight to the wicked, opulent heart of Coldtown itself.

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is a wholly original story of rage and revenge, of guilt and horror, and of love and loathing from bestselling and acclaimed author Holly Black.
Pilu of the Woods
Mai K. Nguyen

I haven't a clue what this is about other than that it's absolutely adorable looking. I am in love with the art and the overal vibe of the art that I had to have it as soon as I saw it. I haven't read it yet, but soon.

Synopsis
A heartwarming story of friendship, loss, and finding your way home from debut author/illustrator Mai K. Nguyen!

Willow loves the woods near her house. They’re calm and quiet, so different from her own turbulent emotions, which she keeps locked away. When her emotions get the better of her one day, she decides to run away into the woods.

There, she meets Pilu, a lost tree spirit who can’t find her way back home—which turns out to be the magnolia grove Willow’s mom used to take her to. Willow offers to help Pilu, and the two quickly become friends.

But the journey is long, and Pilu isn’t sure she’s ready to return home yet—which infuriates Willow, who’s determined to make up for her own mistakes by getting Pilu back safely. As a storm rages and Willow’s emotions bubble to the surface, they suddenly take on a physical form, putting both girls in danger… and forcing Willow to confront her inner feelings once and for all.
The Okay Witch
Emma Steinkellner
This is one of the cutest witchy covers! I think it's the witchy aspect that gives me Autumn vibes, since the blue and overall not Autumn colors. However, this is one of the ones I have read and I can guarantee the Autumn vibes inside this graphic novel!
Synopsis
Sabrina the Teenage Witch meets Roller Girl in this hilarious, one-of-a-kind graphic novel about a half-witch who has just discovered the truth about herself, her family, and her town and is doing her best to survive middle school now that she knows everything!

Magic is harder than it looks.

Thirteen-year-old Moth Hush loves all things witchy. But she’s about to discover that witches aren’t just the stuff of movies, books, and spooky stories. When some eighth-grade bullies try to ruin her Halloween, something really strange happens. It turns out that Founder’s Bluff, Massachusetts, has a centuries-old history of witch drama. And, surprise: Moth’s family is at the center of it all! When Moth’s new powers show up, things get totally out-of-control. She meets a talking cat, falls into an enchanted diary, and unlocks a hidden witch world. Secrets surface from generations past as Moth unravels the complicated legacy at the heart of her town, her family, and herself.

In this spellbinding graphic novel debut, Emma Steinkellner spins a story packed with humor and heart about the weird and wonderful adventures of a witch-in-progress.

Pumpkinheads
Rainbow Rowell & Faith Erin Hicks

I haven't read this one yet but it's the next on my list! If this graphic novel cover doesn't give you Autumn vibes I am not sure what cover will. I am pretty excited about it! Originally I wanted to read it before Halloween but it just wasn't in the cards. I am so excited to read this one.

Synopsis
Deja and Josiah are seasonal best friends.

Every autumn, all through high school, they’ve worked together at the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world. (Not many people know that the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world is in Omaha, Nebraska, but it definitely is.) They say good-bye every Halloween, and they’re reunited every September 1.

But this Halloween is different—Josiah and Deja are finally seniors, and this is their last season at the pumpkin patch. Their last shift together. Their last good-bye.

Josiah’s ready to spend the whole night feeling melancholy about it. Deja isn’t ready to let him. She’s got a plan: What if—instead of moping and the usual slinging lima beans down at the Succotash Hut—they went out with a bang? They could see all the sights! Taste all the snacks! And Josiah could finally talk to that cute girl he’s been mooning over for three years . . .

What if their last shift was an adventure?
Mooncakes
Wendy Xu & Suzanne Walker
I recently finished this one and loved it, my review should be up tomorrow! This graphic novel is filled with Autumn imagery. It has witches, werewolves, and magical spirit animals. It's so wholesome and sweet, and I definitely think it's worth the read.

Synopsis
A story of love and demons, family and witchcraft.

Nova Huang knows more about magic than your average teen witch. She works at her grandmothers' bookshop, where she helps them loan out spell books and investigate any supernatural occurrences in their New England town.

One fateful night, she follows reports of a white wolf into the woods, and she comes across the unexpected: her childhood crush, Tam Lang, battling a horse demon in the woods. As a werewolf, Tam has been wandering from place to place for years, unable to call any town home.

Pursued by dark forces eager to claim the magic of wolves and out of options, Tam turns to Nova for help. Their latent feelings are rekindled against the backdrop of witchcraft, untested magic, occult rituals, and family ties both new and old in this enchanting tale of self-discovery.
 The Courage of Cat Campbell
Natasha Lowe

I haven't read this one yet! My husband was at our local library and found this gem in the free bin! Which is so exciting because it looks right up my ally. I think it's obvious by the image of a witchy girl on the cover. Other than the synopsis I don't know much about this, or if it's a popular one, but I am so excited for this one!
Synopsis
Cat Campbell is a late-blooming witch whose magical abilities are bursting to be mastered in this charming coming-of-age story set in the world of The Power of Poppy Pendle.

Cat Campbell has had magical powers since the day she was born, but she didn’t always know that. Cat’s mother believes magic ruins lives, and even as Cat’s passion for magic grows over the years, no one suspects she has the gift. But she has indeed inherited the coveted magic gene of her famed great-great-grandmother Mabel, a discovery she makes in a most surprising way. Cat is a witch! And when she comes across a book called The Late Bloomer’s Guide to Magic, she finds the encouragement she needs and spells that work. Then the town of Potts Bottom is threatened by a notoriously feared witch, and Cat has the chance to help her family and town—and to prove herself in the process. Because, as The Late Bloomer’s Guide to Magic proclaims, “believing in your magic and yourself is half the battle.”

 Teen Titans: Raven
Kami Garcia & Gabriel Picolo
I absolutely love this graphic novel so much, and cannot wait for book two. I am not sure why this one gives me Autumn vibes. It could be the overal vibe of the story, which if you know the character Raven from the DC Teen Titans superhero group, she is a pretty dark character with dark magical abilities, or it could just be the overall vibe of Gabriel Picolo's art. Either way, I loved it.
Synopsis
When a tragic accident takes the life of 17-year-old Raven Roth's foster mom—and Raven's memory—she moves to New Orleans to recover and finish her senior year of high school.

Starting over isn't easy. Raven remembers everyday stuff like how to solve math equations and make pasta, but she can't remember her favorite song or who she was before the accident. And when impossible things start happening, Raven begins to think it might even be better not to know who she was before.

But as she grows closer to her new friends, her foster sister, Max, and Tommy Torres, a guy who accepts her for who she is now, Raven has to decide if she's ready to face what's buried in the past... and the darkness building inside her.

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Kami Garcia and first-time graphic novel artist Gabriel Picolo comes this riveting tale of finding the strength to face who you are and learning to trust others—and yourself.

Echo North
Joanna  Ruth Meyer

I live in Maine, so although all of November falls under "Autumn" once mid November hits we are officially in cold winter-like weather. This book is set in winter, but because Autumn in Maine starts late September and ends mid  November I am adding this one to represet the colder moments of Autumn. The cover is gorgeous and I cannot wait to read it and take the photo of it in with the bare wintery trees or the snow.

Synopsis
Echo Alkaev’s safe and carefully structured world falls apart when her father leaves for the city and mysteriously disappears. Believing he is lost forever, Echo is shocked to find him half-frozen in the winter forest six months later, guarded by a strange talking wolf—the same creature who attacked her as a child. The wolf presents Echo with an ultimatum: If she lives with him for one year, he will ensure her father makes it home safely. But there is more to the wolf than Echo realizes.

In his enchanted house beneath a mountain, each room must be sewn together to keep the home from unraveling, and something new and dark and strange lies behind every door. When centuries-old secrets unfold, Echo discovers a magical library full of books-turned-mirrors, and a young man named Hal who is trapped inside of them. As the year ticks by, the rooms begin to disappear, and Echo must solve the mystery of the wolf’s enchantment before her time is up, otherwise Echo, the wolf, and Hal will be lost forever.

Thanks for reading!
