SpookTober Bingo TBR

IT'S SPOOKTOBER TIME! Like many readers, I like to read more spooky themed books around this time of year. My fiancé loves Halloween so much so he does the same, and he found this great bingo grid of SpookTober themes! It was created by Julie Israel a few years ago, I'll link her original post here! Below I'll put the grid and I will talk about the books I am hoping will meet the requirements I am hoping to complete.

The row I am hoping to complete is the second row horizontally across. Here are the books that will hopefully help me achieve SpookTober Bingo! We may be starting SpookTober in late September because of how excited we are, but we will see!

NOS4A2 by Joe Hill

Monster Is Original

I am so excited to re-read this book!! I read it three years ago and I absolutely loved it! It's been so long that I would like a refresher, especially since Hulu is adapting it. Plus, I really want to review it for my blog because I am often talking about how much  I loved it but I don't have a review to link to if anyone is interested in my detailed thoughts. I remember being actually freaked out by this book, so I am thinking maybe reading it with the audiobook, which will just add to the spookiness. Charles Manx is definitely an original character/monster.

Synopsis
NOS4A2 is a spine-tingling novel of supernatural suspense from master of horror Joe Hill, the New York Times bestselling author of Heart-Shaped Box and Horns.

Victoria McQueen has a secret gift for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. On her Raleigh Tuff Burner bike, she makes her way to a rickety covered bridge that, within moments, takes her wherever she needs to go, whether it’s across Massachusetts or across the country.

Charles Talent Manx has a way with children. He likes to take them for rides in his 1938 Rolls-Royce Wraith with the NOS4A2 vanity plate. With his old car, he can slip right out of the everyday world, and onto the hidden roads that transport them to an astonishing – and terrifying – playground of amusements he calls “Christmasland.”

Then, one day, Vic goes looking for trouble—and finds Manx. That was a lifetime ago. Now Vic, the only kid to ever escape Manx’s unmitigated evil, is all grown up and desperate to forget. But Charlie Manx never stopped thinking about Victoria McQueen. He’s on the road again and he’s picked up a new passenger: Vic’s own son.

Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco

Monster is Human

I am hoping that this counts, since vampires were once humans so I am using this book to complete this bingo square. I read the first book, Stalking Jack the Ripper, and although I enjoyed it I didn't love it.  The feminism in the book seemed forced and unnatural, which is a bummer because I am always for some good feminist books. And I thought it was a bit predictable. However, I hear the series gets better and I was entertained by the first one. I am excited to continue!

Synopsis
In this New York Times bestselling sequel to Kerri Maniscalco's haunting #1 debut Stalking Jack the Ripper, bizarre murders are discovered in the castle of Prince Vlad the Impaler, otherwise known as Dracula. Could it be a copycat killer...or has the depraved prince been brought back to life?

Following the grief and horror of her discovery of Jack the Ripper's true identity, Audrey Rose Wadsworth has no choice but to flee London and its memories. Together with the arrogant yet charming Thomas Cresswell, she journeys to the dark heart of Romania, home to one of Europe's best schools of forensic medicine...and to another notorious killer, Vlad the Impaler, whose thirst for blood became legend.

But her life's dream is soon tainted by blood-soaked discoveries in the halls of the school's forbidding castle, and Audrey Rose is compelled to investigate the strangely familiar murders. What she finds brings all her terrifying fears to life once again.

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

Title Contains The Word "Dead", "Blood", or "Bone"

This series, and all of Bardugo's books, has a large very loud fanbase and I am excited to possibly be able to jump in the fandom with everyone. I really hope I like it! Especially since I hear amazing things about the spin off duology, Six of Crows & Crooked Kingdom. I just want to understand the hype!

Synopsis
Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee.

Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life—a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.

Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha . . . and the secrets of her heart.

The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw

A Character is Murdered

First of all, this cover is absolutely gorgeous. I am in love with it and will always be even if I end up not liking the story because this cover is a work of art. I have seen mixed reviews but  I am still really interested and I want to see what I think about it for myself. Because I was so into the synopsis I cannot just write this book off because I really really want to like it. From the concept, the cover, and even the author who seems like such a sweetheart on Instagram. I am just really hoping I am into this story! It has so many themes that points towards me loving it.

Synopsis
Where, two centuries ago, three sisters were sentenced to death for witchery. Stones were tied to their ankles and they were drowned in the deep waters surrounding the town.

Now, for a brief time each summer, the sisters return, stealing the bodies of three weak-hearted girls so that they may seek their revenge, luring boys into the harbor and pulling them under.

Like many locals, seventeen-year-old Penny Talbot has accepted the fate of the town. But this year, on the eve of the sisters’ return, a boy named Bo Carter arrives; unaware of the danger he has just stumbled into.

Mistrust and lies spread quickly through the salty, rain-soaked streets. The townspeople turn against one another. Penny and Bo suspect each other of hiding secrets. And death comes swiftly to those who cannot resist the call of the sisters.

But only Penny sees what others cannot. And she will be forced to choose: save Bo, or save herself.

The Archived by Victoria Schwab

Has A Creepy Setting

I love Victoria Schwab so much and I have wanted to read this book for so long. So I am finally going to dive in! The Archived's concept sounds perfect to complete this bingo square! I am so interested in how unique all of Schwab's stories are, and this doesn't disappoint. I don't know much about it besides what is in the synopsis. I am excited! Soon I'll have read of Schwab's books! I am hoping to have read all of her books by the end of this year.

Synopsis
Each body has a story to tell, a life seen in pictures only Librarians can read. The dead are called Histories, and the vast realm in which they rest is the Archive.

Da first brought Mackenzie Bishop here four years ago, when she was twelve years old, frightened but determined to prove herself. Now Da is dead, and Mac has grown into what he once was: a ruthless Keeper, tasked with stopping often violent Histories from waking up and getting out. Because of her job, she lies to the people she loves, and she knows fear for what it is: a useful tool for staying alive.

Being a Keeper isn't just dangerous—it's a constant reminder of those Mac has lost, Da's death was hard enough, but now that her little brother is gone too, Mac starts to wonder about the boundary between living and dying, sleeping and waking. In the Archive, the dead must never be disturbed. And yet, someone is deliberately altering Histories, erasing essential chapters. Unless Mac can piece together what remains, the Archive itself may crumble and fall.

In this haunting, richly imagined novel, Victoria Schwab reveals the thin lines between past and present, love and pain, trust and deceit, unbearable loss and hard-won redemption.

If you end up doing SpookTober I would love to know what books you plan on reading and what row you are hoping to complete!!

Thanks for reading!
