Exciting 2018 Releases

It's 2018 and I am SO excited for this list of books! I am hoping to get to them this year, but because  I rely heavily on my library we will see. I definitely planning on reading all of these books in the future, because they all have something that makes me really excited to read. I will also include their release dates, but these release dates could always change I am just going off the dates I found online. When a book gives me that urge to pick it up ASAP, I know I have to read it. And all of these books do that for me. We as readers are definitely lucky to have all these books coming out in the next year.

Zenith by Sasha Alsberg & Lindsay Cummings (1.16.18)

I read the "Part One" sample release when it came out and I really loved it. I thought the story was fun and the characters were exciting. Sasha has said that this book will be different from what we have read previously but I am still really excited to read it.

Synopsis:
Most know Androma Racella as the Bloody Baroness, a powerful mercenary whose reign of terror stretches across the Mirabel Galaxy. To those aboard her glass starship, Marauder, however, she's just Andi, their friend and fearless leader.

But when a routine mission goes awry, the Marauder's all-girl crew is tested as they find themselves in a treacherous situation and at the mercy of a sadistic bounty hunter from Andi's past.

Meanwhile, across the galaxy, a ruthless ruler waits in the shadows of the planet Xen Ptera, biding her time to exact revenge for the destruction of her people. The pieces of her deadly plan are about to fall into place, unleashing a plot that will tear Mirabel in two.

Andi and her crew embark on a dangerous, soul-testing journey that could restore order to their shipor just as easily start a war that will devour worlds. As the Marauder hurtles toward the unknown, and Mirabel hangs in the balance, the only certainty is that in a galaxy run on lies and illusion, no one can be trusted.

Reign of the Fallen by Sarah Glenn Marsh (1.23.18)

I haven't read any books by Sarah before (she has another book out, Fear the Drowning Deep I also really want to read in 2018) but this just sounds so cool. I am really excited to pick this book up. Also, the cover is gorgeous.

Synopsis:
Odessa is one of Karthia's master necromancers, catering to the kingdom's ruling Dead. Whenever a noble dies, it's Odessa's job to raise them by retrieving their souls from a dreamy and dangerous shadow world called the Deadlands. But there is a cost to being raised--the Dead must remain shrouded, or risk transforming into zombie-like monsters known as Shades. If even a hint of flesh is exposed, the grotesque transformation will begin.

A dramatic uptick in Shade attacks raises suspicions and fears among Odessa's necromancer community. Soon a crushing loss of one of their own reveals a disturbing conspiracy: someone is intentionally creating Shades by tearing shrouds from the Dead--and training them to attack. Odessa is faced with a terrifying question: What if her necromancer's magic is the weapon that brings Karthia to its knees?

The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton (2.6.18)

This book has been so hyped and talked about on book twitter in 2017 that I am dying to get my hands on it. We do not get a lot of diverse fantasy stories and this is definitely one to keep an eye on because the concept sounds so cool. Cannot wait to read it.

Synopsis:
Camellia Beauregard is a Belle. In the opulent world of Orléans, Belles are revered, for they control Beauty, and Beauty is a commodity coveted above all else. In Orléans, the people are born gray, they are born damned, and only with the help of a Belle and her talents can they transform and be made beautiful.

But it’s not enough for Camellia to be just a Belle. She wants to be the favorite—the Belle chosen by the Queen of Orléans to live in the royal palace, to tend to the royal family and their court, to be recognized as the most talented Belle in the land. But once Camellia and her Belle sisters arrive at court, it becomes clear that being the favorite is not everything she always dreamed it would be. Behind the gilded palace walls live dark secrets, and Camellia soon learns that the very essence of her existence is a lie—that her powers are far greater, and could be more dangerous, than she ever imagined. And when the queen asks Camellia to risk her own life and help the ailing princess by using Belle powers in unintended ways, Camellia now faces an impossible decision.

With the future of Orléans and its people at stake, Camellia must decide—save herself and her sisters and the way of the Belles—or resuscitate the princess, risk her own life, and change the ways of her world forever.

#Prettyboy Must Die by Kimberly Reid (2.13.18)

This sounds SO funny and super modern. As soon as I heard the snyopsis of this book I immediately put it on my TBR. It's advertised as #AlexFromTarget meets Die Hard. I am so excited to pick it up.

Synopsis:
When Peter Smith's classmate snaps a picture of him during a late night run at the track, Peter thinks he might be in trouble. When she posts that photo--along with the caption, "See the Pretty Boy Run,"--Peter knows he's in trouble. But when hostiles drop through the ceiling of his 6th period Chem Class, Peter's pretty sure his trouble just became a national emergency.

Because he's not really Peter Smith. He's Jake Morrow, former foster-kid turned CIA operative. After a massive screw-up on his first mission, he's on a pity assignment, a dozen hit lists and now, social media, apparently. As #Prettboy, of all freaking things.

His cover's blown, his school's under siege, and if he screws up now, #Prettyboy will become #Deadboy faster than you can say, 'fifteen minutes of fame.' Trapped in a high school with rabid killers and rabid fans, he'll need all his training and then some to save his job, his school and, oh yeah, his life.

Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi (3.6.18)

Here is another book that has been talked about and hyped in 2017 that has made me incredibly impatient about reading it. I hear so many amazing things from other writers/readers who have been lucky enough to read early copies of Children of Blood and Bone. I am very excited for this book.

Synopsis:
Zélie Adebola remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zelie’s Reaper mother summoned forth souls.

But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, maji were targeted and killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope.

Now, Zélie has one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must outwit and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good.

Danger lurks in Orïsha, where snow leoponaires prowl and vengeful spirits wait in the waters. Yet the greatest danger may be Zélie herself as she struggles to control her powers—and her growing feelings for the enemy.

Inkmistress by Audrey Coulhurst (3.6.18)

If you know me or have read any of my other blog posts you know that  I absolutely loved Of Fire and Stars. This is a sequel and I am completely here for it. The synopsis immediately had me wanting to reach out and grab the book out of my screen. I cannot wait to read it and I am so excited for more of Audrey Coulthurst's writing and worlds.

Synopsis:
Asra is a demigod with a dangerous gift: the ability to dictate the future by writing with her blood. To keep her power secret, she leads a quiet life as a healer on a remote mountain, content to help the people in her care and spend time with Ina, the mortal girl she loves.

But Asra’s peaceful life is upended when bandits threaten Ina’s village and the king does nothing to help. Desperate to protect her people, Ina begs Asra for assistance in finding her manifest—the animal she’ll be able to change into as her rite of passage to adulthood. Asra uses her blood magic to help Ina, but her spell goes horribly wrong and the bandits destroy the village, killing Ina’s family.

Unaware that Asra is at fault, Ina swears revenge on the king and takes a savage dragon as her manifest. To stop her, Asra must embark on a journey across the kingdom, becoming a player in lethal games of power among assassins, gods, and even the king himself.

Most frightening of all, she discovers the dark secrets of her own mysterious history—and the terrible, powerful legacy she carries in her blood.

Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli (4.24.18)

I love Becky Albertalli and her books. Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda and The Upside of Unrequited are both some of my favorite books. So of course I am going to love and enjoy Leah's story! Each book is in the same universe but they revolve around different characters. We got a lot of Leah in Simon's story but I wasn't the biggest fan of hers. However, I am ready to change my opinion.

Synopsis:
Leah Burke—girl-band drummer, master of deadpan, and Simon Spier’s best friend from the award-winning Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda—takes center stage in this novel of first love and senior-year angst.

When it comes to drumming, Leah Burke is usually on beat—but real life isn’t always so rhythmic. An anomaly in her friend group, she’s the only child of a young, single mom, and her life is decidedly less privileged. She loves to draw but is too self-conscious to show it. And even though her mom knows she’s bisexual, she hasn’t mustered the courage to tell her friends—not even her openly gay BFF, Simon.

So Leah really doesn’t know what to do when her rock-solid friend group starts to fracture in unexpected ways. With prom and college on the horizon, tensions are running high. It’s hard for Leah to strike the right note while the people she loves are fighting—especially when she realizes she might love one of them more than she ever intended.

Girl Made of Stars by Ashley Herring Blake (5.15.18)

I haven't read anything by the author (however I want to read her book How To Make a Wish this year also) but I hear amazing things about her books. This is one that has had my interest for a while so I am really excited to pick it up.

Synopsis:

"I need Owen to explain this. Because yes, I do know that Owen would never do that, but I also know Hannah would never lie about something like that."

Mara and Owen are about as close as twins can get. So when Mara's friend Hannah accuses Owen of rape, Mara doesn't know what to think. Can the brother she loves really be guilty of such a violent crime? Torn between the family she loves and her own sense of right and wrong, Mara is feeling lost, and it doesn't help that things have been strained with her ex-girlfriend, Charlie.

As Mara, Hannah, and Charlie navigate this new terrain, Mara must face a trauma from her own past and decide where Charlie fits in her future. With sensitivity and openness, this timely novel confronts the difficult questions surrounding consent, victim blaming, and sexual assault.

From Twinkle, With Love by Sandhya Menon (6.25.17)

I loved Menon's book When Dimple Met Rishi when I read it last year so I am very excited to read her new novel! It sounds incredibly sweet and I look forward to reading more of her writing. One thing I loved so much about WDMR is that I loved the characters so much. So  I have no doubt that'll be the case this time.

Synopsis:
Aspiring filmmaker and wallflower Twinkle Mehra has stories she wants to tell and universes she wants to explore, if only the world would listen. So when fellow film geek Sahil Roy approaches her to direct a movie for the upcoming Summer Festival, Twinkle is all over it. The chance to publicly showcase her voice as a director? Dream come true. The fact that it gets her closer to her longtime crush, Neil Roy—a.k.a. Sahil’s twin brother? Dream come true x 2.

When mystery man “N” begins emailing her, Twinkle is sure it’s Neil, finally ready to begin their happily-ever-after. The only slightly inconvenient problem is that, in the course of movie-making, she’s fallen madly in love with the irresistibly adorkable Sahil.

Twinkle soon realizes that resistance is futile: The romance she’s got is not the one she’s scripted. But will it be enough?

Told through the letters Twinkle writes to her favorite female filmmakers, From Twinkle, with Love navigates big truths about friendship, family, and the unexpected places love can find you.

What If It's Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera  (10.2.18)

This book obviously doesn't have a cover yet and we don't have too much information about it (at least from what I could find) but I am still really excited to read this book. I love both Albertalli and Silvera's books so them co-writing a book together sounds perfect.

Synopsis:
What If It’s Us opens as Arthur and Ben meet at the post office as Ben is shipping his ex-boyfriend’s things back to him. They subsequently endure the frustration of knowing there was a missed connection, before the universe pushes them back together again in a series of failed “first” dates.

Thanks for reading!
