[Book Review] Ultimate Sacrifice by S.E. Green

Back in June I did a Cover Reveal for anyone interested!

Vickie has always lived a quiet, ordinary life in an equally quiet and ordinary small town. Yet one fateful night a child turns up dead in the woods behind her house in a ritualistic slaughter. Vickie and her family are suddenly thrown into a national spotlight. But as the investigation unfolds, she begins to realize her family isn’t so ordinary after all. Evil is inching closer to those she holds dear and Vickie isn't sure who she can ultimately trust.

3.5 STARS

**Full Disclosure: I was given a copy of this book by the publishing company OfTomes Publishing in exchange for an honest review!**

This was a really fun read. The characters were interesting and the story gets you hooked into the mystery early on! I definitely have to admit that I had issues putting the book down once I started reading. I needed to know what happened to the little dead girl!

When it came to the characters, it was honestly hard to like them. Which made it really hard to fully root for the family but even if I wasn't fully rooting for the family, I wanted to know what their role was in the death of the girl in the woods. There wasn't a moment where I felt connected to our main character, Vickie, or her brothers. At times their choices angered me, and I rolled my eyes a lot at Vickie, but I needed to know what was happening.

The writing was really good. I enjoyed S.E. Green's writing style and talent for writing dialogue. It's obvious that Green is also talented at writing chilling/suspenseful scenes since there are a couple really good ones in this book. I am excited to read more of S.E. Green.

My biggest issue with the book is that it is advertised as a horror novel, but it's really more of a mystery with family drama. There are two moments in the book where I felt genuine fear, but they're over before they really even begin. I think the mystery is done well, and honestly so was the family drama themes in this book. But I felt disappointed that I was told "Horror" and I don't think we were delivered a horror book.

Overall, I do recommend this book! The writing is well done, the mystery is interesting, and the ending GOT ME! I definitely recommend reading it late at night, because I read the last 30% of the book in the dark when it was windy outside and I full on got freaked out. I think October/November is the perfect time to pick up this book!

Thanks for reading!
