[Top 5 Wednesday] Best Second Books

It's time for this week's Top Five Wednesday! This has been created by gingerreadslainey and it also has a Goodreads group. I am hoping to do these posts (or other weekly Wednesday posts) more often as long as I am interested in the current prompt! This week's prompt I am talking about some of the best second books in book series' I've read.

1. Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas
This is the best book of the series in my opinion. I have a lot of issues with this series as a whole, but I have a huge soft spot for Crown of Midnight.

2. A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
This is the best Sarah J. Maas book ever written by far. The rest of this series or the Throne of Glass series doesn't touch to how good this one is and it's going to be a favorite of mine for a while. This book was a real emotional ride and I loved it. I have a lot of issues with the first and third book, so I honestly like to pretend that it's a stand alone.

3. City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare
I had some issues with City of Bones (mostly writing issues) which almost stopped  me from reading the series but I think as the books go on the writing and story get a lot better. I was pleasantly surprised by this sequel.

4. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
I think the books get better as they go on. Mockingjay is my favorite, with Catching Fire right behind and then Hunger Games. I think Catching Fire is such an amazing read and now that the world has been set by the first book we can really get into the story more. Plus we get so many great characters and we get to know the characters we met in the first book (that survive).

5. Prodigy by Marie Lu
This series is one of my favorites, and I really loved this second book. Like Catching Fire, with this series the first book did a great job world building so now we get into the juicier parts of the story. I love June and Day so much.

Thanks for reading!

What are some of your favorite second books?

    1. I definitely say give them a try if you're interested! They're super popular and although I enjoyed them more when I first read them than I do now, I get why it's popular. I recommend her A Court of Rose and Thorns more if you have to pick from the two. The second book (#2 on my list) is amazing

    1. I know the YA dystopian genre has died down some but if you're itching to read a dystopian I highly recommend it!
