[Book Blogger Hop] May 19-25th

Book Blogger Hop's purpose is to give bloggers a chance to discover and follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend bloggers, and gain followers. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end on Thursday where there will be a weekly prompt following a bookish question.

Question:
What do you do with the books you no longer want? Do you donate them? Do you take them to a half-price bookstore? Does a family member or friend benefit?

My response:
I tend to ask around to see if anyone wants the books I plan on donating. And if no one claims them I will normally bring the books to Goodwill or Book Barn. I have never donated books to the library before but I really like that option for next time especially since I've been using my local library so often in the last year and I'd love to be able to give back a little and help out. I don't tend to buy books very often unless I either know I am going to love the book or I am buying it because I already read it and I love it. So this isn't something that happens to me too often now a days. During college I bought books so often that I definitely have some books that need to go because I either have read them and have no interest in keeping, or I have lost interest entirely.

Thanks for reading!

  1. I think it's time for both of us to do some re-reading before we donate! :)

    1. Agreed! I have so many books from college or even high school that I don't even know if I'd be into anymore!

  2. Goodwill is another option I haven't thought of.

    Thanks for that suggestion.

Two good suggestions today were to donate to a nursing home and now Goodwill. THANKS.

    ENJOY your weekend.

    Happy Hopping!!

  3. That's true for me too. I used to have more to pass on. These days it's only an occasional one because I tend to restrict my print purchases to books I know I'll want to keep.

  4. I usually donate books to the library for their used book sale.

  5. Most of the time, I donate my unwanted books to Goodwill. There are a couple of those stores not far from me. But I also donate to my local library occasionally.

It's nice of you to ask around first, to see if anyone would like to have one of your books, before you actually donate. Sadly, I don't have any readers in my immediate vicinity, so that option is out.

Have you ever thought of holding a giveaway for any of your unwanted books? I've hosted a couple. Of course, only U.S. residents can enter, because I can't afford to pay for international shipping. It can be a hassle, though, because you have to ship the book yourself, and pay for the shipping. too.

Thanks for sharing!! Hope you're having a WONDERFUL Sunday!! <3 :)
