[Book Blogger Hop] April 28th-May 4th

Book Blogger Hop's purpose is to give bloggers a chance to discover and follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend bloggers, and gain followers. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end on Thursday where there will be a weekly prompt following a bookish question.

Question:
How many books have you re-read? If you have re-read books, please tells us the book's title and why you re-read it.

My response:
I re-read books so often that I cannot possibly list all the books I've re-read. However, I definitely have a few distinct reasons why I re-read a book. So I will list those instead.

Sometimes I re-read a book because I feel like I am on the verge of a book slump, or I'm in a slump and I need something familiar. Re-reading a favorite helps keep me reading daily and it reminds me why I love to read. Books I grab for comfort are the Harry Potter series, Alice's Adventures in  Wonderland, and Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe.

Another reason why I re-read a book is because I don't remember much about the story, but I remember liking it (or hating it) and I want a more modern opinion. When I started getting really back into reading about seven years ago I was getting so many book recommendations that I felt like I was drowning. I felt behind and that I needed to catch up, so I sped through so many books so quickly that now some of them fade into each other. Plus, my memory is really awful. Books I really want to re-read to see if I still like them are the Across the Universe series by Beth Revis, the Heist Society series by Ally Carter, and the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi.

Another reason for me to pick up and re-read a book is to read the first of a book before the sequel comes out. Like I said recently, my memory is pretty bad, so sometimes re-reading a book will help refresh my memory before I dive into a new released sequel. This is another reason why I need to read sequels (if they're already out) right after reading the first book. One book I'll be re-reading for this reason is This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab because Our Dark Duet comes out soon and I am so pumped.

The final reason why I re-read books is because a friend of mine (most of the time it's Erica from Erica Robyn Reads) who is reading a book that I want to read with them, but it's a re-read for me. I love doing this because I enjoy seeing someone experience my favorite stories. Plus it just gives me an excuse to read books that make me happy. We plan on reading Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss sometime this year.

Thanks for reading!

  2. Those are all good reasons for re-reading books! I do not re-read very often, but I am in no way opposed to the idea. I have read a handful and have plans to re-read others . . . Just finding the time while wanting to read all the other new-to-me books is a challenge. It's hard for me to get past my "Must read ALL the books" attitude, which, in and of itself, is an impossible goal. :-)

Have a great week! Thank you for sharing.

    1. I totally get that. It's so hard to re-read when you have a pile of unread books waiting for you. I try to let myself just pick up whichever book is calling me at that moment.

Thank you! I hope you also have a great week! :)

  3. Re-reading to get out of a slump works for me, too. I also have to re-read to prepare for a sequel if the author takes longer than two years to write the next book. The author of the Mara Dyer books took so long the write the last book that I feel I have to go back and read the first book, also!
