A Series Of Unfortunate Events Book Tag

This tag was created by Erica Robyn Reads
Sometimes you read a story that is so heartwarming and so inspirational that you smile while reading. There are stories that lift you up, make you feel safe, comforted, and at ease. I am saddened to inform you that A Series of Unfortunate Events is not one of those stories. It's not too late for you to back out of this tag right now and forget you even clicked on this link. But I must warn you, the moment you start reading the tag you're going to be compelled, a word which here means feeling a great urge to do something, to read the thirteen book series and watch the Netflix show coming out Friday January 13th. This is not a sweet story like The Littlest Elf. This story will contain sadness, tragedy, betrayal, and death. You have been warned.

Questions:

The Bad Beginning- Name a book or a series that you had trouble getting into, but ended up loving.

NOS4A2 by Joe Hill took some time getting into. I read it on my kindle and the kindle version is 955 pages long. Because it's so long it took a little time but once I hit a certain point I was hooked and I couldn't get enough. I loved this book.

The Fire- Name a book that you wouldn't rush to douse with water if it happened to catch fire.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was my least favorite book of 2016. I disliked almost everything about it, and I felt so disappointed. The cover may be pretty but not pretty enough to make me forget the contents inside.

The Orphans- Name a book series that you wish had been a stand-alone book.

The Delirium series by Lauren Oliver. I think it was stretched out for three books because trilogies are really popular in YA Fiction. Unfortunately I think having so many books hurt the series.

Mischievous Schemes- Name a character that always seemed to be up to something.

Iko from The Lunar Chronicle series! She was by far one of the best characters in this saga. She's so mischievous and sassy which made every single scene she was in even better. There's no way you can read Iko's character and not love her.

The Eye- Name a book scheduled to be released in 2017 that you've had your eye on.

There are a few sequels I am really excited for like the next A Court of Mist and Fury and Red Queen books. However, I am really excited to read The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas and Because You Love To Hate Me by Ameriie.

Disguises- Name a book that you read and loved but would never have picked up if you had judged the book by its cover.

The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes by Diane Chamberlain. Erica, the creator of this tag, had recommended this book to me in 2015 so I read it early 2016 and really loved it. I probably wouldn't have picked up the book on my own because the cover doesn't really pop out at me. It's very generic, which isn't the case for the story itself because the story kept me hooked beginning to end.

The Villain- Who is your favorite book villain?

Queen of Hearts in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. I read this book when I was young after seeing the Disney movie. The Red Queen, although obviously evil, always had me laughing because of how absolutely ridiculous she was as a ruler.

Letters- If you could write a letter to tell your past self to read a certain book, what book would that be and why?

If the book had to exist when younger me read the letter, then I'd pick  To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I am upset it took me until 2016 to read this book for the first time because of how important the themes are and how much I loved the characters. However, if the book doesn't have to exist yet, I would tell my younger self to look out for Dumplin' by Julie Murphy. If I had read Dumplin' in high school it probably would have been my absolute favorite book.

Clever Inventions- Name an invention from a book that you wish was real.

The time turner in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban would be really cool to own. Of course, I  get that there are precautions because it's a bit dangerous to own. Plus there are a lot of rules. I still think that it would be really cool to own one.

Mob Mentality- Name a book that you read based solely on the recommendation of others but didn't enjoy.

The Perks of Being A Wallflower. This book was so well loved for so many readers that I both knew personally and followed online. I read it when I first got back into reading when I was in college and even at first gave it a good review because I didn't want to insult anyone I knew who enjoyed the book. After a few years of reading more books and becoming a better writer because of my college writing classes I re-read the book and gave it a rating I felt happier with. I just thought it was really pretentious and a bit boring.

The V. F. D.- Name a book or a series you've read that is about a secret society.

Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins is about a secret society of ancient guardians known as Paladins. I really enjoyed the first book in this series because of how much fun it is.

The Sugar Bowl- Name a book that you used to own, but can no longer find.

Late in 2016 I realized my copy of Dash and Lily's Book of Dares by David Leviathan and Rachel Cohen is missing. Which made me really sad because it's my favorite holiday read so I'll have to repurchase it soon.

Unhappy Endings- What series did you feel ended badly or in a way that you did not like?

I really disliked the ending to the Twilight series. It was so anti-climatic and a bit of a bummer ending to a series I loved reading so much in high school.

Thanks for reading!
