Free Comic Book Day 2018

Free Comic Book Day has passed for another year, making it the fifth one  I have participated in with my friend and fiancé! This year, I decided to take more photos and try to document the day a bit more so I can make a proper post about it! If you are unsure what Free Comic Book Day is, it's a day each year (first Saturday of May) where comic books all over America give away free comics that are made specifically for the day! It's a great way to get together with all your friends, see (or make) amazing cosplays, get some free comics, or even support your local comic book store by buying something if you can. Let's jump right into how my day went!

[Comic Book Review] The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Beats Up the Marvel Universe by Ryan North

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl is about Doreen Green (a.k.a. Squirrel Girl), who has incredible strength, can talk to squirrels, and as the name explains, is unbeatable. She has a gang of superhero friends, a squirrel sidekick named Tippy Toe, and is on texting terms with most of the Avengers but Iron Man in particular. Squirrel Girl is an amazing role model for younger readers and I honestly wish I read her as a kid because she would have been a favorite of young Heather's. She's fiercely loyal, sticks to her morals, and has all the good intentions.

[Comic Book Review] Fables: 1001 Nights of Snowfall by Bill Willingham

Fables is a comic book series of different Grimm fairy tales with new twists to them. It's like a more depressing Once Upon a Time in comic form. In this volume alone you see some popular fables like Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Hansel and Gretel, Beauty and the Beast, etc. Some are big parts of the comic and others are small little nods to the stories we know and love.

[Graphic Novel Review] Rat Queens Volume 1: Sass and Sorcery

Quick heads up that this graphic novel series is definitely geared for a more mature reader. (Gore, language, sex talk, etc). I like to try to have any warnings in the beginning with more mature content just in case that isn't something you're interested in!

Why did it take me so long to finally read this!? I am already in love with this universe and art style.

Rat Queens is a fantasy story about these four badass women who discover that there is an assassin attacking the five teams (Rat Queens, Peaches, Four Daves, Brother Ponies, and Obsidian Darkness) that are assigned quests by the captain of the guard. This volume is about them trying to find out who hired the assassin but also dealing with things in their personal life.
