[Book Review] Damsel by Elana K. Arnold

The rite has existed for as long as anyone can remember: when the prince-who-will-be-king comes of age, he must venture out into the gray lands, slay a fierce dragon, and rescue a damsel to be his bride. This is the way things have always been.

When Ama wakes in the arms of Prince Emory, however, she knows none of this. She has no memory of what came before she was captured by the dragon, or what horrors she has faced in its lair. She knows only this handsome prince, the story he tells of her rescue, and her destiny to sit on the throne beside him. Ama comes with Emory back to the kingdom of Harding, hailed as the new princess, welcomed to the court.

However, as soon as her first night falls, she begins to realize that not all is as it seems, that there is more to the legends of the dragons and the damsels than anyone knows–and that the greatest threats to her life may not be behind her, but here, in front of her.

[Book Review] Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman

The Owens sisters confront the challenges of life and love in this bewitching novel from New York Times bestselling author Alice Hoffman.

For more than two hundred years, the Owens women have been blamed for everything that has gone wrong in their Massachusetts town. Gillian and Sally have endured that fate as well: as children, the sisters were forever outsiders, taunted, talked about, pointed at. Their elderly aunts almost seemed to encourage the whispers of witchery, with their musty house and their exotic concoctions and their crowd of black cats. But all Gillian and Sally wanted was to escape.

One will do so by marrying, the other by running away. But the bonds they share will bring them back—almost as if by magic...

[Book Review] Seven Ways We Lie by Riley Redgate

Trigger Warnings: teacher-student relationship, publicly outing a LGBTQIA member without their consent, slut shaming.

Paloma High School is an ordinary high school until the administrators get an anonymous note saying that there is a student-teacher relationship happening at their school. We follow seven main protagonists (each resembling one deadly sin) as they, and everyone else in the school, try to figure out which teacher and which student are having relations. Each character is going through something specific and meaningful to them, which makes everything a bit messier than they expected.

[Book Review] A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas

A Court of Wings and Ruin is the third installment of the Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas. So if you haven't read the previous books in the series I would suggest you stop reading this summary because it can spoil things for you for the first two books in the series. Other than that, there will be a non-spoiler section of my review and then a spoiler section, because although I try to stay as spoiler free as I can, when discussing a sequel in a crazy anticipated series like this one, I have some spoiler-y things to say.

Feyre is back at the Spring Court trying to get information on Tamlin and the Hybern king. She has to pretend that she is happy she is back with him, and not with Rhysand, the king of the Night Court, any longer. War is coming and Feyre has to figure out which High Lords she can trust, and which ones are out to get her.

[Book Review] Bared to You by Sylvia Day

1.5 STARS

This is going to be a harsh review, because I really disliked this book. So if you really like this book or series and do not want to read a negative review I am giving you the warning now.

So is consent not sexy anymore? Is everyone really into women saying "I am not interested" and "no" and then the guy ignores what she's clearly saying and keeps on pushing himself at her because he thinks he knows what is best for her? Even if they literally just met? Then finally after saying no he wears her down. How sexy.

[Graphic Novel Review] Rat Queens Volume 1: Sass and Sorcery

Quick heads up that this graphic novel series is definitely geared for a more mature reader. (Gore, language, sex talk, etc). I like to try to have any warnings in the beginning with more mature content just in case that isn't something you're interested in!

5 STARS

Why did it take me so long to finally read this!? I am already in love with this universe and art style.
Rat Queens is a fantasy story about these four badass women who discover that there is an assassin attacking the five teams (Rat Queens, Peaches, Four Daves, Brother Ponies, and Obsidian Darkness) that are assigned quests by the captain of the guard. This volume is about them trying to find out who hired the assassin but also dealing with things in their personal life.
