[Book Blogger Hop] April 20-26th: Book Review Oragnization

Book Blogger Hop's purpose is to give bloggers a chance to discover and follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend bloggers, and gain followers. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end on Thursday where there will be a weekly prompt following a bookish question.

Question:

How do you organize your books for review? Does it work for you or have you had to change it? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews)

Answer:
I haven't been accepting books for review for a while, but when I was accepting reviews I would keep an eye on their deadlines and try to have each honest book review far apart or at least have some books I chose for myself to read in between so I wasn't too overwhelmed. It worked for me! But my problem was I would accept too many books or I'd accept books I wasn't completely interested in but I had issues telling the author no. Once I try NetGalley out I am definitely going to take my time and not rush into a bunch of books so I can get my footing.

However, I don't have much organization when it comes to book reviews in general. I will write the review right after reading the book, edit the review, probably ask my fiancĂ© to look it over, and then I put it up whenever I have a day free of posts. I try to get my reviews up as soon as possible, especially if I am having a good reading month and I am just banging out reviews left and right.

Thanks for reading!

  1. Heather, I am very similar to you where I write my reviews as soon as I can because I find, that when I just move on to reading my next book I tend to forget minor parts of the book but parts I still want included in the review.

I was like you too in Netgalley and Edelweiss and in Blog Tours etc it just overwhelmed me, I've only restarted blogging very recently and will not be requesting for reviews etc for awhile. I don't even think I'll be participating in many blog tours, as there are so many books I want to read (personally chosen).

    1. Yes! That is exactly why I have to get all my thoughts out ASAP before I forget details or lose the feeling I felt when I finished the story.

And yeah! I requested books on Netgalley for the first time just today so I am dipping my toes in the water a little. I just don't want to make it feel like a chore you know? I hope you're able to find the balance that works for you! I think its a bit of experimenting until you find the right fit.

      Thanks for reading/commenting! <3

  2. I've managed to get ridiculously behind in the books I want to review, though they're all just books I read, not that I accepted for review. Happy reading!

    1. Yeah! I am always behind on my personal TBR. It doesn't help that I add so many new ones to it hahaha. Happy reading!

  3. I've just had to close accepting review requests because I could feel myself getting overwhelmed by the amount of them that I was accepting. Since I'm still very new to the book blogging community, I have a hard time turning down authors because I feel like I should be accepting all and any book requests. I do have a schedule that allows me to prioritise those reviews with deadlines, though, so that keeps me from getting too overwhelmed. But I make sure that I take time to read the books of my choosing too.

I write the book reviews almost always right after finishing the book, though I take my time to post them so that I don't run out of posts and that the content of my blog stays somewhat consistent, haha :)

    1. Yeah!! I had the same problem! I felt bad saying no to authors so I never did, and I would get pretty overwhelmed too. I have decided to try NetGalley a little to see how that goes since it's me asking the publishers/authors versus them asking me.

I also do that! I try to spread them out evenly so I post at least a few times a week :D

Checking out your BBH now! Thanks for stopping by and Happy reading!

  4. Sounds like a good plan.

I write my reviews as I am reading so they are pretty much completed when I am done with the book. Reduces stress for me.

    Thanks for sharing.

    1. Yeah! I do the same because I am always worried my thoughts for the book will leave me unless I write them all down first.

      Thanks for the question! :)
