Book Blogger Hop's purpose is to give bloggers a chance to discover and follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend bloggers, and gain followers. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end on Thursday where there will be a weekly prompt following a bookish question. This weekly prompt was created by Billy @ Ramblings From A Coffee Addicted Writer.
Question:
Do you read hardcovers with the dust jacket on or off? Why or why not? (submitted by Maria @ A Night's Dream of Books)
Answer:
Unless it's a library book where I have no choice but to read the book with the dust jacket, I typically just take off the dust jacket. I don't like the way it slides when I am reading and I like to try to keep it in a good condition, which is hard to do when I'm reading with it. The sliding is what bugs me the most. It's so hard to not get distracted, so this way if it's off I can read without my focus constantly being pulled out of the story. My biggest struggle with this whole thing is that I like bringing books with me when I leave my apartment and I always debate bringing it with the dust jacket so I can get a nice photo of the book! Book blogger/instagram struggles I suppose haha.
I understand about wanting a nice photo, but I leave the jacket at home.
ReplyDeleteNice answer...thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog.
Yeah! I always struggle with leaving it home or bringing it to get a nice photo. I always have to be so careful.
DeleteAnd of course! Thanks for stopping by :D
I feel this way too about dust jackets. They can be so annoying whenever they are sliding and you can't really read the book while it's sliding around!

Yeah! Exactly! I actually just commented on yours without realizing you already looked at mine! We seem to have a lot of the same thoughts on this topic :D Have a great weekend.
DeleteI tend to keep them on. They don't annoy me.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely a bit jealous! I wish I could keep them on while reading it would make everything way easier. Thanks for sharing and have an awesome weekend Nicki :)
DeleteYep. Dust jackets are the devil when reading. However, I'm liking the library's approach of taping them on! Good job I don't buy them often or I'd become an even bigger book monster than I already am! lol
ReplyDeleteYeah!! And I agree. I wonder if it’s expen to buy the supplies to do covers/tape on all of my hardcover books!
DeleteThis makes me glad I'm not on Instagram! No dilemma for me.
ReplyDeleteThere you go! Haha
DeleteSo many are saying they take the dust jacket off, I suppose it is a good idea to try and keep it neat. We should definitely start a #bookbloggerstruggles tag. I don't really do instagram though so it's not really an issue for me. I just keep the jackets on so I know where they are.
ReplyDeleteHey at least you found what works for you!! And phew yeah. Imagine all the shared stories with that hashtag hahaha.
DeleteI agree with you that they do tend to slide. But that said I do leave them on all my books whether I'm reading them at the moment or not.
ReplyDeleteNice!! Hey if you can ignore the sliding more power to you. I’m way too easily distracted. :D
DeleteI keep the dust jacket on. I never notice it sliding. I will also use the flap as a bookmark.
ReplyDeleteI used to use the flaps as bookmarks until I started collecting bookmarks!! They do make things convenient though! :D
DeleteHaha! I don't take pictures of my books as nearly as I should be doing as a blogger... I'm trying to get into Instagram but every time I think I should take a photo for Instagram, the moment has already passed...
ReplyDeleteWhat I normally do is I’ll take photos while I’m out and then use the photo to promote the review I post! so I have book photos saved for future reviews :) it’s hard to remember sometimes to do it and I’ve definitely forgotten a bunch of times.
DeleteYeah, I'm with you! :) That sliding around really gets me distracted, too! Oh, it drives me nuts!! Lol. Plus, I sure don't want the DJ to get edge wear on it, especially on the bottom.
ReplyDeleteYou bring up an interesting point about taking hardcovers with you when you leave the house. I just realized something: I very rarely do so. I tend to read them at home. But then, I don't have an Instagram page, so that's not a worry for me. Lol.
Thanks for sharing! So sorry for the late comment back...:( Thanks for commenting on my own BBH post!! <3 :)
Yeah! I like taking pretty photos of books when I can, especially going out isn't something I do often, but I am always needing to be so cautious not to ruin the book.
DeleteAnd of course! Thanks for commenting!! <3 <3
That is understandable why you keep the dust jacket off. I usually read my book at the dinner table and I lay the book flat down while I am reading a book, or when I am reading in my bedroom I get a pillow and lay the book flat down on the pillow. And laying the book flat down the dust jacket doesn't bother me or slip or slide around the dust jacket while I am reading a book. That's why dust jackets doesn't bother me. Thank you so much for stopping by my blog hop last week Heather.
ReplyDeleteYeah!! If I lay my book flat down the dust jacket is absolute no problem!! But I am typically holding my book up while reading. And of course!! Thank you for stopping by mine :) <3
