[Comic Book Review] The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Beats Up the Marvel Universe by Ryan North

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl is about Doreen Green (a.k.a. Squirrel Girl), who has incredible strength, can talk to squirrels, and as the name explains, is unbeatable. She has a gang of superhero friends, a squirrel sidekick named Tippy Toe, and is on texting terms with most of the Avengers but Iron Man in particular. Squirrel Girl is an amazing role model for younger readers and I honestly wish I read her as a kid because she would have been a favorite of young Heather's. She's fiercely loyal, sticks to her morals, and has all the good intentions.

4 STARS

I loved this comic book! The art and the story were both pretty easy to love. I also really loved all the Avengers cameos that happened throughout the story. I liked seeing Squirrel Girl be respected by the Avengers as a legit kick butt superhero.

Squirrel Girl is definitely one of my top five favorite superheroes, close to being my top favorite but Iron Man always holds a place in my heart. I love her outlook on life, her attitude towards her friends, and her powers are just really cool. She's totally a superhero that I can root for and keep on reading about for a long time. I want all readers, especially young girls, to read about this strong successful woman superhero.

However, I didn't love it enough to give it a full five stars. I did find that the story dragged on a little bit. Because of the slower moments and the fact that although I loved it, it wasn't anything new or different, I don't think I felt comfortable giving it the highest rating. I got what I expected, which isn't a bad thing. I just don't feel like it was five star great. That doesn't mean I didn't love it, I did. It made me laugh and I found myself taking a lot of photos of my favorite moments and sending them to my boyfriend.

Overall I really enjoyed this comic and I am excited to keep reading more of Squirrel Girl. This is most definitely a comic series I would recommend to younger readers who maybe aren't mature enough for the more violent Avengers comics. I think seeing more kick butt female superheroes is really great for all readers, but especially younger girls.

Thanks for reading!
