Read-O-Rama is a read-a-thon taking place this week! It starts today, March 12th and ends on the 18th. I haven't been able to find a specific creator of the read-a-thon but it does have a Twitter where the five hosts will be running reading sprints and there is also a giveaway happening.
I only found out about the read-a-thon yesterday, so I am late to the game, but I really wanted to participate. So this is a last minute TBR plan and a few of the books I am waiting on the library to have for me, so the books I read for those challenges may change depending on if the books arrive in time. Either way I am going to try to finish all seven challenges but the main goal is to just get a little extra reading done that I wouldn't have normally. So here are the challenges and my plans for each of them.
Read a book with a person or character who has an illness.
My plan for this challenge is to read Under Rose Tainted Skies by Louise Gornall. Under Rose Tainted Skies is about the main character Norah who secluded herself to her house because she suffers from agoraphobia. The outside world is too terrifying for her, so she stays in her house where she is safe. I am currently waiting for this book to come in the mail but it's in transit so I think it'll be here this week.
Read a book that has the letters R-A-M-A somewhere in the title or the authors name
Another book that is in transit on the way to the library is my pick for this challenge. Which is, Here We Are: Feminism for the Real World edited by Kelly Jensen. It's a book of short stories, art, poems, etc with feminist themes. I am really excited to read this book, being March is Woman's History month. Plus it just sounds really good and I am always excited for more feminist reads.
Read a book with a character that has the same first initial as yours.
Okay, for this one I am cheating a little bit. Since I am using a book I already started last week, but I couldn't think of another book that I have at my disposal. I am using City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare. I am using the character Hodge, which I guess could also be considered as cheating because he's not a main character, but I am not as prepared as I wish I was. I may try to read at least half of City of Glass afterwards, so I don't feel like I am cheating.
Read a book with some sort of Irish elements.
Once again, I had to find a book I had at my disposal. I have owned Artemis Fowl on my kindle for years now, but I haven't read it. So I plan on reading Artemis Fowl by Erin Colfer because it's set on the outskirts of Dublin, Ireland. I don't know too much about this series other than it's well loved by many people I know. So I am excited to give it a chance.
Read a book blind. So starting a book without knowing anything about it beforehand.
Another book that is in transit on the way to the library is a book I requested completely blind. I heard great things from many BookTubers and other readers so I requested with knowing nothing about the plot. Which is The Education of Margot Sanchez by Lilliam Rivera. The cover is so pretty, so that's enough for me want to read it, but with all the raving reviews I decided I needed to read it ASAP.
Start a series.
For this book, I have Fables 1001 Nights of Snowfall which is written by Bill Willingham but illustrated by a dozen different illustrators. Fables is the start of a comic book series. This is another series I have heard great things about, so I am excited to try out this comic series. I am all about stories that are some sort of fairy tale retelling and from just a quick flip through of the book, the art is really cool. Which is always a bonus when it comes to comics and graphic novels.
Read seven books.
I have a few options for this, since it's so simple. I have A Subtle Knife by Phillip Pullman that I need to read soon before it's due at the library. So that's probably what I'll read but it could easily change throughout the week.
