[Comic Book Review] Spider-Man: Family Business by Mark Waid, James Robinson, and Gabriele Dell'Otto

Someone has Spider-Man in their crosshairs and the only person in the Marvel Universe who can save him is Peter Parker's sister?! As the web-slinger meets family he never knew, will she end up becoming his greatest ally or the one who damns him? And what does the Kingpin have to do with it?

2 STARS

This is a relatively short comic so I suspect that my review will also be short. Overall, I enjoyed some of the plot and dialogue from this comic but a lot of it had me really bored.

I loved the art and I think it was the best part of the whole volume. It's super striking and at times vibrant. Like I say with most of the art I love from comics or graphic novels, I wish I could frame some of these panels with how gorgeous they are.

The idea of Peter Parker having a sister was cool, I was a bit bummed we got like 90% Peter Parker with family drama and like 10% snarky fun Spider-Man. The family aspect dragged on and some of the plot got muddled. I felt myself going in and out of concentration, which meant a lot of re-reading pages and it taking me a long time (for a comic) to finish. The writing didn't really keep me hooked, I kind of felt uninterested throughout most of it.

Overall, if you're a Spider-Man fan and you want to read something new I say give it a try. Unfortunately it wasn't for me, but I love reading Spider-Man comics and there are enough of them out there that I will find others that are more up my ally.

Thanks for reading!
