[Original Tag] Gryffindor Pride Book Tag

March 22 is Gryffindor Pride Day! And as a Gryffindor who wears red and gold proudly, I was inspired to make a Gryffindor Pride Book Tag because my friend Erica Robyn Reads made a Hufflepuff Appreciation Tag. I tag all my fellow Gryffindors (and all Potterheads) who are interested in doing this tag, don't forget to credit me and link me to your answers! The main reason why I wanted to create this tag was so I could connect with more Gryffindors and Potterheads. Also, try to have answers outside of the Harry Potter world, it is more fun that way. Have fun!

Gryffindor Pride Book Tag

(created by myself, Heather's Reading Hideaway)

Bravery - Name a character that exuded bravery.

Starr from The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas.

Starr watches her [unarmed] childhood friend get shot by a police officer and has to deal with the grief and aftermath of it all. From hearing her private school rich friends talk badly about him to the media labeling him as a thug or gang member. She struggles with the fact that she is the only other person other than the police officer who knows the truth, but she is fearful she won't be believed and she could put herself and the ones she loves in danger.Starr is a character I fully love, and I think she's one of the bravest literary women.

Courage - Name a character who could use a dose of courage.

Cath from Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell.

At first this question was hard to answer, which I think is a great thing because that means that most characters I read are either brave, or end up brave by the end of their stories. The character I finally settled on would have to be Cath. Cath is someone who suffers from anxiety, and although I (someone who also suffers from anxiety) am not saying she needs a dose of courage to get over her anxiety, she definitely uses her anxiety to rationalize her actions at times. Not purposely. But there are a few instances where Cath cannot seem to be brave enough to step outside her comfort zone. But she does finally start to explore and experience new things.

Determination - Name a book that you were determined to finish.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

I had heard this book was very slow paced (which is why it took me years to even pick it up) but I realized although that was true I was really enjoying it. So I was determined to finish it despite it taking longer than it typically would.

Godric Gryffindor  (Founder of the Gryffindor House) - Name a character who values bravery over anything else.

Lyra Belacqua from the His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman.

She always puts bravery and the right thing above her own fears and sometimes even her own safety. I really admire her for it, especially since she is so young. I wish I had read this series as a kid because I would have absolutely loved her even more and related to her the way I related to Hermione.

Nearly Headless Nick (Gryffindor Ghost) - Name a character with a disappointing death. (WARNING: Daughter of Smoke and Bone Spoilers!!)

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor (specific character name in paragraph).

I felt like I was just waiting for a certain character to come back to life and not actually be dead, but the more I read the more I realized that it wasn't going to happen and he (Brimstone...I was waiting to be more in the middle of the paragraph to avoid spoiling people) was going to stay dead. I felt pretty numb when he died. I wanted more of Brimstone (and the other chimera) to have more time with Karou. I needed more scenes with them.

Fat Lady (Gryffindor Common Room Guard) - Name a book or series that demanded your full attention, and you couldn't put it down.

This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab

This book had me hooked from the beginning. It's written so beautifully and the characters are so interesting that I just needed to know what was going to happen. Schwab makes you care about the two main characters so much, and the world she's built is such a creepy and unique one that you can't put down the book. I sped through the book, and I cannot wait for the sequel.

Gryffindor Tower (and Common Room) - Name your favorite place to curl up and read.

Comfort is key.

Most of the time if I am getting comfortable to read, I sit on my couch, grab a blanket, and make a cup of tea. Of course, also with my pup sleeping on my lap. Sometimes I have some sort of snack, but I probably will eat it before I start reading because I am not great at eating and reading at the same time. I prefer things to be relatively silent but I can normally block out noise if I am not interested in whatever it is. So if my boyfriend is playing video games, I can probably ignore it. But if music I enjoy and know well starts to play, the lyrics will distract me.

The Trio (Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger) - Name your favorite literary best friends.

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz.

Ari and Dante's friendship makes my heart so happy. I love them so much. I don't even know how else to explain that other than to say: anyone who hasn't read this book, read it! It's so amazing. Most of my favorite books/romances start off with the characters as friends first. I think that is one of the best ways to write a romance, and Saenz does it perfectly.

Minerva McGonagall (Gryffindor Head of House) - Name a no-nonsense character who is actually a big softy.

Warner from the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi

Warner is a character that has a lot of development and growth throughout the series. One thing I like about his character is that although he is hard and cold at times because of his upbringing he does have a soft side. His short interactions with James, his tolerance of Kenji, and his compassion towards Juliette are just a few examples. I am hoping as we get more books we see even more of that from him.

Albus Dumbledore (Hogwarts Headmaster) - Name a book or series that had a plot that caught you by surprise.

Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

I knew this book was going to be amazing before I even started. However, I didn't realize it was going to be that good. I was absolutely blown away and there are so many moments that genuinely took me by surprise. I highly recommend this book it's amazing.

Rubeus Hagrid (Keeper of Keys & Grounds at Hogwarts) - Name a character who just cannot keep a secret.

Iko from the Lunar Chronicle series by Marissa Meyer.

Iko is such a fun character in this series. She is the comical relief  that is in each of the stories that you cannot help but love. She is this bubbly type character you know will spill the beans the moment she gets pressured (or she just cannot contain her excitement) when she's given a secret.

Neville Longbottom - Name a character who is brave when it's most needed.

Simon Lewis from the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare.

I have only read the first three in the Mortal Instruments series but I really enjoyed Simon's character development and bravery. Although he drives me a bit nuts a lot of the time, I have to admit that he steps up and shows bravery when it is most needed. I think he is one of the characters that keeps surprising me the most, because I do not expect it. Which is similar to Neville, because no one at Hogwarts thought Neville would be so brave.

The Marauders - Name your favorite fictional world map.

Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi and Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

The map in the end pages (and the one I got with my B&N special edition of the book) is absolutely gorgeous. I loved looking at it while reading the story. And of course The Game of Thrones map is a classic answer to this question because it's so well done.

The Weasleys - Name a book or series that is a comfort read and always welcomes you home.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.

Harry Potter is always my choice for questions like this. However, because I feel like that is not only the obvious choice but also a bit cheating, I am going to go with Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. This book is one I have probably re-read the most especially as a kid. It has been a while since I have read it, but I plan on re-reading it in the next month or so.

House Colors (Red & Gold) - Name a book cover that is predominately red and gold.

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins.

I am using the yellow as gold, because I feel like it's close enough. I think this cover is a beautiful one, all the books in this series are I love the simplicity, and the colors are definitely similar to Gryffindor house colors. Plus, I think Katniss Everdeen is one of the bravest characters in YA literature.

Thank you for reading!

That is the Gryffindor Pride Book Tag! If you end up answering the questions link me to your blog post or video so I get to see the answers you picked to my questions! Go Go Gryffindor!
